Privacy Policy
Effective 23 September 2026 · Agreement version 1
Mohingo is an English course for Arabic speakers. It is built to work without an internet connection, and it keeps your learning on your phone. This policy explains exactly what the app stores, what can leave your phone, and why.
In short
- Your progress is saved on your phone. You don't need an account to use every part of the course.
- Mohingo has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and it does not sell or share your information for marketing.
- Only three things can send information off your phone: an account, if you choose to create one; the grammar check on some typed answers; and your phone's speech recognition during speaking tasks. Each is explained below.
What is saved on your phone
- The name you enter in Settings, if you enter one.
- Your learning progress: lessons started and finished, your answers (what you typed, or the text of what you said), scores, test results, review schedules and saved words.
- Your settings: app language, light or dark mode, voice speed, and whether you have accepted this policy and seen the app guide.
This information stays in the app's private storage. Removing the app deletes it, and Settings → Reset progress erases your progress at any time.
If your phone's own backup is turned on, Android or iOS may include the app's data in your device backup. That backup is managed by your phone and your Google or Apple account, not by Mohingo.
If you create an account (optional)
An account lets you keep your progress when you change phones and use it on more than one device. Accounts are provided by Firebase, a Google service.
- Signing in: Firebase Authentication receives your email address and password (Mohingo never stores your password); or, if you continue with Google, the basic details of your Google account (email address, name and profile picture); or, if you continue with Apple on an iPhone, your email address — or, if you choose to hide it, an address Apple creates that forwards to yours. Mohingo does not ask Apple for your name.
- Your progress copy: while you are signed in, your progress (as listed above, including your answers) and the name you entered are copied to Cloud Firestore, Google's database, in its Dammam, Saudi Arabia region. This is only done so your progress appears on your other devices.
- Only you can read your copy. Mohingo's server rules allow a signed-in account to reach its own records and nothing else.
- Signing out stops syncing and keeps your account. Settings → Delete account permanently deletes your account and its copy of your progress.
Google processes this information under the Firebase terms and Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
The grammar check on typed answers
Some writing tasks are graded partly by LanguageTool, an online grammar-checking service run by LanguageTooler GmbH in Germany. When you are online, the text of your answer to one of these tasks is sent to LanguageTool so it can count grammar mistakes. Only the answer text is sent — not your name, your account or any identifier — although, like any website, the service can see your internet address. If you are offline, the answer waits on your phone and is sent later; if it cannot be checked, Mohingo grades it on your phone instead. LanguageTool's own privacy policy (languagetool.org/legal/privacy) applies to what it receives.
Speaking tasks and the microphone
Mohingo asks for the microphone only when you choose to answer a speaking task aloud. Your phone's speech-recognition service (Google's on most Android phones, Apple's on iPhone) turns your voice into text. Depending on your phone and its settings, that service may process the recording on its own servers. Mohingo does not record or keep audio; it saves only the resulting text as your answer. You can type your answers instead.
The English audio you hear in lessons is included in the app, so listening does not use the internet.
What Mohingo does not do
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or usage-tracking services.
- No selling, renting or sharing of your information with third parties for their own purposes.
- No access to your contacts, photos, location or files.
How long information is kept
- On your phone: until you reset your progress or remove the app.
- In your account: until you reset your progress (which erases the progress copy) or delete your account.
- At LanguageTool, Google and Apple: according to their own policies.
Security
Information sent by Mohingo travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password if you create an account.
Who Mohingo is for
Mohingo is designed for adult learners.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will show you the new version and ask you to accept it before you continue.
